ANOTHER GAME FOR AUSTRALIA -
BUT QUADE STILL CAN'T CALL AUSTRALIA HOME
Quade Cooper has been recalled to play another match for Australia, with the Wallabies taking on the World Champion Springboks on Sunday night on the Gold Coast.
As we all prepare to cheer him on, Quade must be wondering how he can play for Australia, but not call Australia home.
He'll add to his seventy international appearances in the green and gold with his first start for the Wallabies in 1,546 days.
He's been training with the Wallabies since a surprise recall to the squad in the lead-up to the Bledisloe Cup series against New Zealand, and will look to lead our national side to their first win of the 2021 Rugby Championship.
Labor wishes Quade and the Wallabies the best of luck on Sunday night, and for their remaining matches against South Africa and Argentina.
Labor continues to call for Quade's citizenship application to be reviewed by the Morrison Government.
Quade has seen his application for Australian citizenship rejected four times, despite immigrating to Australia in 2001 and spending over a decade representing Australia at the highest level.
I've written to Minister Alex Hawke concerning Quade's citizenship, and I'll continue to work constructively with the Minister and his office to ensure that one of our greatest Wallabies can finally, and officially, call Australia home.
Sadly, Quade Cooper's frustrating experience with the Department of Home Affairs is just one story of the 140,000 people who are waiting up to two years to become Australian citizens despite completing all their paperwork and having being permanent residents in Australia for years.
Mr Morrison says “if you have a go, you get a go”, but these delays for long term residents of Australia who want to be Australian citizens are further proof Mr Morrison doesn't care about anyone but himself.
Mr Morrison is just not on your side.
